Stone: It's the same with roles and when I choose movies. When I first approach something, I first decide my attitude and then start. I only step forward when I have decided for myself, 'What kind of attitude do you want to have about it?' Acting inevitably involves countless illusions and lies, but even so, I don't want to do it if it's not sincere.
But it was really unfamiliar. I thought I was pretty used to wearing suits while doing various roles, but this outfit was completely unfamiliar. It was the first time I had worn it. I was in the photo where I had thought, "That's really cool." I couldn't get used to that unfamiliar feeling, so I didn't know what to do for a while.
This outfit is a different genre. It's true that I was overwhelmed by the strong first impression. But it's not burdensome, it stimulates desire. I want to be someone who suits this look. I think I'll look much better if I start feeling comfortable with this. I have such a strong desire. I want to get used to this outfit, I want to look more familiar.
Dae-cheol: Don't worry too much. Seok-gu already has a simple face that fits the calmness of a classic suit well. Of course, if you have that kind of mindset, you will probably look much better in the future. Men's clothing is very spiritual. 'My thoughts, my body, and clothes', these three things have to fit well together to create a refined taste.
In particular, Seok-gu's original body shape, a completely relaxed body, and the impression of his face go well with a neat classic suit. A suit is not a piece of clothing to decorate, but rather a piece that reveals a man's aesthetic beauty, so when wearing a classic suit, it is important to discover and refine the impression and attitude that you originally had. If you just stay comfortable, the clothes will fit you well and show off your presence.
Seok-gu: When I looked in the mirror, I felt like a completely different person. I felt like someone who had deviated from my original way of thinking and acting. But really, I thought that I shouldn't be influenced by clothes. After all, since it's Western clothing, it can't help but feel unfamiliar, so I thought that I should develop my own 'attitude' to control it in my own way.
It may be greedy, but I think I can take this as another topic of mine. Honestly, I don't think an actor has to constantly show various sides of himself. I think it's better if he can naturally show his strengths. But if this side of him becomes my topic, I think I will gradually be able to act with more weight.
Daecheol: Yes, that's what this project was like. I chose clean and thin plain fabric to match Seok-gu's original simple image, and the brightest and cleanest gray to match his soft face tone like Korean paper. However, I think good design should not stop at understanding yourself, but should also help you discover new aspects of yourself. So I tried to make a subtle design that makes you feel the depth of a person by further elevating the cleanliness of the finish. Clean and elegant, neat and simple.
Daecheol: This outfit came out really well. It really embodies Lerici's characteristics, so I personally like it a lot. This is something that tailors might talk about, but this outfit was made with such utmost care. I wouldn't be ashamed to say it's the most elaborate sewing in the world. I'm confident that I can compare it to the most delicate tailors in Japan or Italy.
Almost all the connections in this suit are hand-sewn. Even the smallest hem of the pants is hand-sewn from beginning to end. But because it is not noticeable, you will not be able to see the stitching at first glance. It is more elaborate than anyone else's, but it is hidden with great care. That is our aesthetic. I do not think that the traces of hand-sewn represent the value of the clothes.
Here’s another secret: Seok-gu’s suit is made with four whole cuts. Usually, suits are cut into six pieces to follow the shape of the body. This creates a suit with a slim waist. However, this suit has detailed cuts on a single piece of board to create each curve. This creates a perfectly masculine silhouette. Lerici gives a rich sense of three-dimensionality to the three main details of the shoulders, chest, and lapels, making the entire body look three-dimensional and creating a soft nuance of curves. It’s hard to find clothes like this.
Stone: I can't express it exactly, but I really like the impression of restraint. If everything is exposed, it's hard to imagine, but I like this outfit because every part is restrained, hidden, and organized in a unified way. Why, when you decorate something, it's bound to show. If it's too much, it feels like a specific intention like 'I'm going to look better than you' is verbalized. Even when I'm dressed up, I don't like the frivolous attitude of comparing myself to others or dressing up. I'm just doing my own thing, and I think that attitude is where real charm comes from.
Stone: Personally, the process of the work itself was impressive. The conversation was enjoyable, and the results were interesting. Someone was looking at me closely, interpreting me, and using the skills they had worked hard to build up over a long period of time, creating a side of me that I didn't even know existed.
We've talked a lot during our meetings, but when it comes to making clothes, all I've done is choose the colors. But that was natural to me. Trusting and entrusting bespoke to you means that you sympathize with the values and efforts that tailors have pursued so far. The attitude of demanding that things be made like this or like that because you want to have nice clothes doesn't seem to fit well with bespoke like this.
And this is just my opinion. This work surprisingly gave me a lot of comfort. I really want to act in a way that I can be satisfied with. But acting is not something that an actor can do as he wants. On set, everything has to go according to plan, so an actor's acting ultimately comes down to very subtle details within a set format. These are very small details that pass by in an instant, so although not many people notice them, the pleasure I feel when I pour all my energy into those small details and complete them is indescribable.
Of course, there are many things that must be given up in the process of pursuing such extremes. Furthermore, in this day and age where there is so much content and everything passes quickly, lightly, and easily, there are many times when I wonder if this is the right zeitgeist or if it is as valuable an effort as I thought. While experiencing Lerici's bespoke this time, I felt reassured in another sense. There are actually people who pour in such persistent effort to perfect the details of the process. I thought, "Yes, this is the right way to do it." I was impressed.
Daecheol: Bespoke is a very delicate culture. It’s also about attitude. Culture is something that naturally comes about through the convergence of different people’s attitudes, and it’s not something that can be created by someone. Even if it seems like a very easy result, it’s important to try to understand that there’s always someone’s process behind it.
